The continued weaving of historical events and historical personalities adds to the story line. I enjoyed the author’s ability to allow his characters to be developed shine at their well timed moments and not be made a tragic figure working to recover their self esteem through the book. Having talked to the author it is apparent why sports themes will find their way into his books, with his success as a baseball player. Sports continue to be key element in his every day life which readily translate to his characters.
